Member of Parliament for Central Westmoreland Dwayne Vaz is calling on the government to urgently release resources to strengthen the security apparatus in the parish, as well as move ahead with social development, particularly in volatile communities in the face of rising crime and violence.
In a statement today, Mr Vaz says the recent upsurge in criminal activities, especially murders, must be strongly condemned by all law abiding citizens and all stakeholders must join forces with the police to return the parish to normalcy.
Mr Vaz said there is urgent need for the saturation of the security forces in the troubled communities and for resources to strengthen the investigative capacities of the police to be increased so that those who are behind the killings can be brought to justice.
“I am encouraging residents to cooperate with the security forces so that perpetrators can be properly prosecuted.” Mr Vaz said.
According to the Member of Parliament, there is need to fast track plans to improve the social and infrastructural conditions in volatile communities to engender hope, especially to the poorest and most vulnerable.
