The Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM) is reminding the public that we are now at the peak of the Atlantic Hurricane Season.
The report from the Meteorological Service of Jamaica is that atmospheric conditions are not favourable for strengthening and so it is predicted that the system will dissipate before coming into our area on Sunday/Monday of next week.
The public is being urged to maintain a high state of preparedness at all times as an area does not have to be impacted by a tropical cyclone for there to be adverse impacts on individuals, households, businesses and institutions. As we have seen before, this can result from a rainfall event.
The Meteorological Service of Jamaica and the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management continue to closely monitor the situation and are committed to providing updates as they become available.
We advise the public to continue to monitor credible media sources.
