The Honourable Shahine Robinson, Minister of Labour and Social Security, speaking in the Sectoral Debate on June 26, 2018, announced an increase in the Minimum Wage and allowances payable to security guards.
Effective August 1, 2018, the minimum wage for security guards will be increased from $8,854.00 to $9,700.00 per 40 hour work week.
The following allowances payable to security guards will also be increased:
1. Laundry Allowance from $40.30 to $44.00 per hour
2. Firearm Premium Allowance from $44.30 to $48.00 per hour
3. Dog Handler’s Premium Allowance from $29.80 to $33.00 per hour
4. Life Insurance coverage with double indemnity protection and dismemberment coverage increased from $2,500,000.00 to $2,750,000.00
Minister Robinson also announced that the National Minimum Wage will be increased from $6,200.00 to $7,000.00 per 40 hour work week, effective August 1, 2018.
