Within the next few weeks, Jamaicans will benefit from a zero rate access plan to key Government of Jamaica websites and services as well as vital content from the Ministry of Education, Youth and Information.

This comes on the heels of discussions between the Technology Minister, Dr. the Hon. Andrew Wheatley and major technology service providers.

Speaking in Parliament during his 2016/17 Sectoral debate, Minister Wheatley said the Government will be delivering on the commitment it made in its 10 point ICT plan for free access to key online services.

He explained, “what this means is that even if your credit is done, if your data plan is exhausted or in arrears, Jamaicans will be able to access key [sites] to pay taxes; apply for birth certificates and access educational material online for free.”

This will be done on a phased basis and is consistent with creating true universal access for all Jamaicans.
