Three engaging Jamaican artists will exhibit recent work in a show titled Dimensions of Womanhood, June 25th & 26th at Spanish Court Hotel, Valencia L.

Stefan Clarke, Katrina Coombs and Gisele Gardner offer unique perspectives on womanhood. Clarke creates female body forms out of PVC, Coombs weaves and stitches various fibers, and Gardner specializes in figurative oil paintings through portraits, the body and faces, focusing on issues of identity and escape.

Taynia Nethersole, an art collector and lawyer, will be the guest speaker at the exhibition’s opening. The public is invited from 6:00pm – 10:00pm on Saturday, and 11:00am - 6:00pm on Sunday.

The works selected for the show are deliberately jarring in terms of material and execution in order to successfully push for a multiplicity of experiences, according to Coombs. “The ambiguity of stigmatizing, sensual and empowering ways in which society engages with the female body is made obvious in this exhibition,” she explains.

Dimensions of Womanhood is being sponsored by Coldwell Banker, Islandsmiles, Spanish Court Hotel and Panmedia. The exhibition is part of the Kingston On The Edge arts festival that began June 17 and runs through June 26.
