Honourable Shahine Robinson MP, Minister of Labour and Social Security

On behalf of Ministry of Labour and Social Security, let me express our sadness at the passing of 47-year old Mr. Agen Han, who suffered fatal injuries last evening (Thursday, June 16, 2016) while at work on the Karisma Hotel site in Negril, Hanover.  First Responders from the Negril Fire Department arrived on the scene shortly after the incident and Mr. Han was taken to the Savanna-la-mar hospital in Westmoreland, where he was pronounced dead.

A Team of Technical Officers from the Ministry’s Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Department visited the Karisma site last night and provided me with a preliminary report on the accident. The team will provide a more detailed report after meetings today with the police, developers and other stakeholders.

As Minister I take this opportunity to urge employers and employees to strictly adhere to the rules and Regulations governing Occupational Safety and Health in Jamaica and maintain high standards for safety and health in the work place.

The Ministry expresses sympathies to the family, friends and co-workers of Mr. Han in this their time of bereavement.
