Scotiabank Targets 3000 for Regional HIV/AIDS Testing Day

3000 people, at 16 locations islandwide, will be targeted by Scotiabank for HIV/AIDS testing for this year’s celebration of Regional Testing Day. That’s up from ten sites in 2015. The activities kick off on June 13 and June 14, with testing sites set up at the Ocho Rios and Falmouth cruise ship piers respectively.

Regional Testing Day is celebrated each year on June 24. Since 2006, Scotiabank has joined forces with the Caribbean Broadcast Media Partnership on HIV/AIDS andthe Ministries of Health, to encourage visits to Testing Sites for private, voluntary HIV counselling and testing in 21 countries across the region. Over the period, approximately 70,000 people across the region have been tested through this initiative.

In addition to the two cruise ship piers, individuals interested in being tested will be facilitated on June 17 at Old Harbour Square, opposite Scotiabank Old Harbour Branch, and Scotiabank Negril; June 21 -Fairview Plaza, and Holiday Inn in Montego Bay; June 22 - Scotiabank Premier Plaza, Scotiabank Portmore, and Scotiabank Falmouth; and finally on June 24 - Spanish Town Bus Park, Sam Sharpe Square Civic Centre, Port Antonio Square, Scotiabank St. Ann’s Bay, Scotiabank Hagley Park Road and Scotiabank Santa Cruz. The initiative will culminate at the Oakland Entertainment Complex. Most  sites will be open between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. 

HIV counselling and testing is an important entry point into comprehensive HIV prevention and treatment programmes and provides an opportunity for more people to know their HIV status. Regional Testing Day 2015 was a resounding success with sixteen thousand six hundred and fifty five (16,655) persons being tested across the Caribbean. In 2015, one hundred and ten (110) of those sixteen thousand six hundred and fifty-five (16,655) people tested positive for the HIV virus.
