On Wednesday, June 8, 2016, members of the Jamaica Customs Agency’s Contraband Enforcement Team (CET) and officers from the Port Security Team seized a shipment consisting of 605 lbs of marijuana with an approximate street value of J$3,932,500.00.

Increased presence on the Port of Kingston and inter-agency cooperation alerted officers to inconsistencies regarding the shipment.  A detailed examination led to the detection of five (5) large packages containing one hundred and nine (109) parcels of marijuana.

The shipment arrived from China and was being transhipped to Suriname via Jamaica.

The matter is currently being investigated by the Border Protection Unit of the Jamaica Customs Agency and the Jamaica Constabulary Force’s Narcotics
