ICOJ celebrates life of Muhammad Ali

| 2016-06-05 00:00:00

The Islamic Council of Jamaica (ICOJ), the umbrella organization for All Muslims in Jamaica, wishes to express regret at the passing of our beloved brother in Islam, the Champ, Muhammad Ali who was previously known as Cassius Marcellus Clay, after a long period of illness.

Muhammad Ali was known for his unflinching support for the American Civil Rights Movement, numerous other righteous causes, and more famously, his refusal to participate in the Vietnam War at great cost to his career and reputation. Over the period of his life, his stance on numerous issues are examples for all to emulate as he opposed injustice, bigotry and segregation in all their manifestations.

We join the world in mourning the loss of this giant among men, and ask The Merciful Allah (God) to forgive his mistakes and accept him in the highest level in Jannah (Paradise). Ameen. Muslim prayers are expected to be made at various locations locally for this blessed son of Islam.

Walk good ‘Champ’ we are looking forward to seeing you on the other side.
