A schools’ Elocution Competition organized by the St. Ann Homecoming & Heritage Foundation will be staged at the St. Ann Parish Library, St. Ann’s Bay, on Thursday May 12, commencing at 10am.

All-Age and Secondary schools from the central region of the parish have been invited to participate.

Each student’s three-minute presentation will be based on the Garvey quote, “A people without knowledge of their past history, origin and culture is like a tree without roots”.

Foundation Patron and Custos Emeritus of St. Ann the Hon. Radcliffe Walters says that the competition is modeled off the Marcus Garvey speech Eisteddfods staged at Edelweiss Park and across the island in the 1930’s.

Invited judges include Franklin McKnight, Editor North Coast Times, and James Walsh, Past Principal, Brown’s Town Community College.
