Kiwanis Club gives Valentine Day Love Treat to indigent

KIWANIS CLUB OF NEW KINGSTON | 2016-02-17 00:00:00

Arguably Valentine's Day is one of the most popular holidays, inspiring a flurry of card and gift giving mostly to those we love romantically as well as those in platonic relationships and among families.   However in most cases these exchanges unfortunately do not include needy persons residing communally in institutions.

On Sunday, February 14 the Kiwanis Club of New Kingston sought to neutralize this status quo when they treated/pampered residents of Cluster C of the Golden Age Home in Vineyard Town, St. Andrew.  The focus was on grooming, pedicures and hair care, barbering services from Tajam’s Total Beauty Care, followed by light refreshment and complemented by decorating, making greeting cards and reading to the residents by the K-Kids from Cherubs, Liberty and Ardene Early Childhood Centers.   President of the Kiwanis Club of New Kingston, Mrs. Audrey Brown was on hand to present each resident with red roses and individually framed photos. The purpose of getting the K – Kids (age 5- 8 years old) involved in the project was to teach them the various parameters of love, caring for the less fortunate and being creative in providing these unique gifts and most importantly the lessons learnt from giving to persons who cannot return the favors.   This celebration was indeed more than just the traditional holiday frenzy.
