CAPI accuses the PNP of unfriendliness with the truth

CITIZENS ACTION FOR PRINCIPLE AND INTEGRITY | 2012-05-08 16:22:00

CITIZENS ACTION FOR PRINCIPLE AND INTEGRITY (CAPI), a group convened to demand and foster principle and integrity in leadership, is questioning the veracity of the assertion of Chairman of the Peoples National Party (PNP), Hon. Robert Pickersgill that he has no evidence of the Party receiving contribution from the David Smith’s Ponzi scheme, Olint.

CAPI asserts that the statement from Chairman Pickersgill runs counter to the one he stated in the Sunday Herald of July 26, 2008 where he was quoted as saying:
Responding to queries, chairman of the opposition People’s National Party (PNP), Robert Pickersgill, dismissed claims that the party got US$1.3 million.

“To the best of my knowledge, Olint donated US$200,000,” Pickersgill said yesterday

According to Hugh Fagan, the civil group’s convenor, either the Chairman is having a lapse in memory or is demonstrating a callous disregard for the principles of honesty and integrity.
Mr. Fagan notes that our leaders must recognize that they have a duty to be always truthful in communicating to the Jamaican people, as the society has become intolerant of leaders who have less than a passing acquaintance with the truth.

CAPI states the current issue regarding Olint has again reinforces the need for urgent campaign finance reforms as the current regime is porous and exposes our democracy to corruption.
CAPI calls on the Government in concert with Opposition and the Electoral Commission to fast track the reform process so as to safeguard the integrity of our cherished democracy.
