ICAJ and MSBM– UWI sign Cooperation Agreement for Anniversary Scholarship

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Jamaica (ICAJ) and the Mona School of Business and Management (MSBM), UWI, signed a Cooperation Agreement for an ICAJ/MSBM joint Anniversary Scholarship on May 12, 2015 at the ICAJ Secretariat, in Kingston. The Agreement seeks to establish a framework for collaboration between MSBM and ICAJ for a Scholarship for the Master of Science degree in Accounting programme offered through MSBM.

The Scholarship will have a value of JA $744,000 to cover the cost of tuition fees for a full time student in the Master of Science degree in Accounting programme.

 “We welcome this initiative which will enhance our collaborative efforts with the MSBM as we seek to further the Accountancy profession by contributing to the education of accounting students”, said Mr. Dennis Chung, President, ICAJ. “This is a fitting way for us to mark our 50th Anniversary as we pursue our mandate to make provision for the training of those who intend to enter the profession.”

Professor Densil Williams, Executive Director, Mona School of Business and Management – UWI said, “This partnership between MSBM and the ICAJ is an important step in continuing to strengthen the Accounting profession. It will provide needed assistance to young professionals who aspire to keep the high standards of the profession alive. I look forward to the operationalization of this as we continue the strong relationship between the ICAJ and MSBM”.

The signing is one of the activities to mark ICAJ’s 50th Anniversary which is currently being celebrated. The occasion also commemorates the 40th Anniversary of the MSc in Accounting degree programme. Established in 1975, the MSc Accounting programme was a watershed initiative for the ICAJ, opening up an alternative qualification route for future accountants.
