Kiwanis celebrates Century of Service Worldwide

KIWANIS CLUB OF NEW KINGSTON | 2015-01-26 00:00:00

Kiwanis International is one of the largest service organizations in the world with over six hundred thousand members of all ages and abilities in over eighty countries devoted to improving the world through one child one community at a time.

The year 2015 marks a significant milestone in the history of the Kiwanis movement even as all fifty-eight local clubs participate in celebratory and commemoratory activities befitting of the centenary.

The official “birthday” of January 21 signaled six months of celebration to honor the past century of dedicated service and launch another 100 years of impacting the lives of countless persons with a distinct emphasis on helping children to thrive, prosper and grow.   The Kiwanis Club of New Kingston renewed this focus on Wednesday, January 21 when members of the club led by President Carmen Brown toured the Ante natal clinic of the Victoria Jubilee Hospital to further assess the physical challenges of the facilities used by the nurses with a view of providing some urgently needed upgrade.   During the visit the club also donated two LED 28” television sets and two DVDs to the waiting lobby of the clinic.

Given an average daily traffic of over 100 patients this gift will not only improve the aesthetics of the area but will also provide patients and nurses with a desirable distraction by way of entertainment/education.
